What is International Human Right's Day?

Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December — the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The UDHR is a milestone document that proclaims the inalienable rights which everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Available in more than 500 languages, it is the most translated document in the world.

 

How are we celebrating International Human Right's Day?

Join us TODAY, Thursday, December 10th for a line-up of events that the whole family can participate in - check out the celebration times below:

  • RST is partnering with Chef Donny Sirisavath for A Walk for Refugees on Thursday, December 10th!

    We'll walk the 35-mile journey from Fort Worth to Dallas, sharing stories of refugees along the way, including Donny's personal story of his journey to the United States and a special story of an RST client. Our walk with end with a socially-distanced celebration with the Bandan Koro African Drum & Dance Ensemble!

  • Join Refugee Services of Texas (RST) alongside the Human Rights Initiative of North Texas (HRINT) for a conversation about the meaning of International Human Right's Day!

    We'll be joined by RST's CEO, Russell Smith, and HRINT's Executive Director, Bill Holston.

    Bring your questions, comments and be part of the conversation this International Human Right's Day on Thursday, December 10th at 6:30PM!

  • To close our International Human Right's Day celebrations, we're hosting a FREE benefit concert with music artist, David Shabani! Join us on Thursday, December 10th from 7:30-8:30PM for an exclusive, live-streaming concert, guaranteed to make you feel as if you're in Austin at a live-music event!

We're partnering with local restaurants across Texas who are generously giving 15% of their proceeds to RST in support of each family we serve for International Human Right's Day!
