Rachel Weisz

RST is celebrating 40 years of open hearts and fresh starts this year. In honor of our 40th anniversary, RST is looking back on the history of refugees and the contributions they have made to the world.

Weisz was born to two refugees, George Weisz, a mechanical engineer/inventor from Hungary and Edith Ruth, a teacher-turned-psychotherapist from Vienna, Austria. Her parents left for the United Kingdom around 1938, before the outbreak of the Second World War to escape the Nazis. Weisz played Evanora, in Oz the Great and Powerful, which opened on March 7th, 2013.  Weisz has won some outstanding awards such as a 2005 Golden Globe and 2006 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Constant Gardener.
