Stand up for Refugees Workshop: Advocate for refugees in your community

dvocate for refugees in your community

President Trump just announced that we are only going to accept 45,000 refugees next fiscal year - the lowest number in the history of the refugee program. The announcement comes after a series of attempts at both the executive and legislative level to limit the refugee program.

What does this mean for the future of refugee program and how does this impact our community?  Join us for a conversation about the policies impacting refugees and what community supporters can do to make sure we continue to be a welcoming place for refugees.

Where: Refugee Services of Texas, 6065 Hillcroft St., Ste 513, Houston, TX 77081
Date: Monday, October 16, 2017
Time: 6pm - 8pm

During the workshop you will learn about:

- Policies at both state and federal level impacting refugees
- Where your Texas elected official stands on the issue of refugees
- Specific actions you can take to make sure we continue to welcome refugees
- How to get your message out effectively, to both supportive and skeptical audiences

You will also get a chance to write a letter to your elected officials.
