Refugee Services of Texas offers semester and summer internships. Interns must be sensitive to cultural and linguistic differences of clients and be aware of the proper boundaries for interaction. School credit available with qualifying universities, no stipends offered.

The RST Austin Advocacy Coordinator Intern will assist the Austin Area Director in designing, planning and implementing advocacy strategies in order to create awareness, develop and disseminate information to the general public, local and state government officials, NGOs and other key players. Employment Program

Internship duties consist of assisting newly arrived individuals with social services, cultural orientation, job development, and community integration.  Intern may assist clients in applying for jobs, going to job interviews, or other services related to helping refugee clients find employment and attain self-sufficiency in the United States.

REFUGEE CASH ASSISTANCE

Refugee Services of Texas in Dallas is seeking an organized and culturally sensitive intern to join its dynamic team either part-time or full-time in its Dallas office. A Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) intern works with clients who have been in the U.S. for less than eight months and are eligible to receive cash assistance. It is a great opportunity for anyone interested in working with foreign populations or financial systems. This position supports and works closely with the RCA Coordinator. Click here to read more.

Adult education Orientation

Assist with Cultural Orientation workshops and English as a Second Language classes. Our CO Workshops provide refugees with an opportunity to learn about life in America, what to expect, and to also meet with other refugees experiencing the ups and downs of refugee resettlement. For ESL, interns will help conduct literacy assessments and assist with house calls to students. Click here to read more. 

Case aid

The Dallas office is looking to work with a group of Case Aid Interns interested in learning about the United States Reception and Placement program and having an opportunity to directly work with and enhance our local resettlement program. 

Volunteer management

Learn the tools of effective volunteer management as a Volunteer Coordination Intern. Interns will help plan events, come up with new opportunities for volunteers, give presentations, and track donations. Professionalism, organization, and communication skills are a must. Click here to read more.

Social Adjustment Services

Interns will work closely with Social Adjustment Services Case Managers to ensure clients have access to medical services and care. Communicate with city and state agencies to coordinate housing and medical services, provide transportation, and help mentor a family or individual. Strong candidates will be organized, able to work with little supervision, and have a desire to work with different cultures. Click here to read more.

Cultural Orientation Intern

This position is open to students who are willing to lead in a continued effort to orientate refugees so that they may become self-sufficient and integrate successfully into their new community. As the cultural orientation intern, the student will develop and coordinate cultural orientations according to client needs, develop learning opportunities, and ensure the continued success of program and the clients.  Click here to read more.

Extended CASE AID

We are now looking for an Extended Case Aid Intern for the 2018 Summer & Fall school semester. The Extended Case Aid Intern (Reception and Placement) will assist in the coordination of services for refugee clients, including housing, medical appointments, inter-agency referrals, files, and crises intervention. Internship duties consist of assisting newly arrived individuals with social services, cultural orientation, job development, and community integration. Duties may also include apartment set-up, airport pick-ups, transportation to appointments, as well as administrative assistance in running a social-services organization. Click here to read more.

Community Engagement

The Fort Worth office is looking for a Volunteer Management Intern for the 2018 Summer & Fall school semester. RST has a variety of community engagement initiatives that help to welcome refugees. This internship will assist with volunteer orientations, community outreach, and placement.  Interns will focus on event planning, community outreach, volunteer and mentor appreciation, and donation documentation.  Professionalism, organization, and communication skills are a must. Click here to read more.  

Public Health & community wellness

The Public Health & Community Wellness Intern will work closely with the Intensive Case Manager and Social Adjustment Case Manager.  Interns will work with staff transporting clients to doctor’s appointments, filling out SSI documents, and learning about the health care system specifically as it affects refugees in Fort Worth.  Interns will research health resources in Fort Worth and seek out relationships with potential community partners.  Interns will provide culturally appropriate orientations to RST clients on issues such as Medicaid/Medicare/WIC benefits, best practices for health and hygiene and more. Click here to read more.
